I've been rather lax the last few years as far as paying attention to Fashion Week - way to many other things going on in my life! (I'll write more on that in the near future.)

Looks like I was not the only one....

This outfit as been discussed on many fashion blogs since it appeared - but Ms. Karen over at Of A Certain Age has been the first that I know of to use it as inspiration for an outfit of her own...
Soft Chic Copycat
I think she does a wonderful job of taking the look and translating it for herself! And I love the fact that she did it by just shopping her closet.
A great example of a couple of things:
1. How to use sites like The Sartorialist for style (not fashion!) inspiration.
2. That you've got a lot more style right in your current closet than you probably realize!
Congratulations Ms. Karen, on showing us how to take that closet to the next level!

As anyone who reads here knows....
I'm an big fan of The Sartorialist, one of the best street style pics blog out there (and the first one I started following when I first started reading fashion blogs!).
But my one issue with the blog has been that there are usually precious few pics of fashionable "women of an age". Now I know that Scott does try to get those pics - but it was just getting depressing to go to his blog and see nothing but willow thin 20 and 30 somethings.
But I was missing his pics, so I went by yesterday. Looking through the pics I was rewarded for my stop by, by a few, wonderful pics of oh so stylish women of an age!
A couple of my favs...

Love the bag, the outfit - and those fierce heels that really show off her great gams!

Elegance pretty much sums this outfit up! I love this particular style - and she pulls it off flawlessly!

Over at the Sartorialist....
Perfect example of how the simplest outfit can be kicked up a notch with a punch of color
On the Bike...Blue Shoes & Black Dressing, Berlin
Just that bit of blue makes the whole outfit interesting!
Important tip to remember, as you may, like I have, started gravitating to a sutler color palette as you've gotten older. A touch of color in the shoes or the purse could be just the thing the old gray mare of an outfit can use to give it life! ; - )

Scott has posted this pic - a great example of mature style....

You'll have to go to the bottom of the page -The Sartorialist - to find the post and see the other pic of this lady. I'm not too sure about the outfit in the other picture he has of this same woman - to me that one is struggling.
But this one is dead on - very casual, yet quite stylish as well. I love the brown coat and the handbag really centers the outfit -- it reminds me of this one over at Forzieri:

More importantly, in both pictures, is this lady's manner -- she's comfortable in her own skin and it shows. That confidence makes the outfit - she isn't second guessing or doubting herself.

Fashion Week Fall '07 -- Oh God, Is It Lent Again?
It a appears that while I was obsessing over my, perhaps overlong, shirt dress post, Olympus Fashion Week New York has started.
Now in the brief time I've started paying attention again to "fashion", I've already developed a conflicted view of the Fashion Weeks cycle.
On one hand the girl in me loves seeing all the new clothes - a never-ending Barbie doll procession.
The woman in me, however, grumbles under her breath about the fact that most of it she can neither 1) Wear or 2) Afford or both. And the sheer magnitude of the number of shows make it almost impossible to really figure out what's what with next seasons trends -- many of which has no relation at all to the everyday life of the females they are supposedly being designed for anyway.
That being said, of course I'm going to read up on what's going on. And to make that a bit more manageable I'm going to follow the following strategy:
1. Hit The Budget Fashionista 'cause she's hitting the tents and doing her always excellent reporting.
2. Create a Lookbook on Style.com. Many thanks to one of my favs, StyleDash for the heads up on this one. This will give me a chance to group looks I like in one place - and will probably teach me a lot about what I like in today's clothing.
Fun and a learning experience? I'm on board for that!
3. Keep an eye on The Sartorialist for great back of the tents, on the street images - you'll probably pick-up better style tips checking out what real folks are wearing than checking out the runways!
(By the way, if you've ever seen the movie Ladyhawke, you'll get my lent reference. if not - see the movie, it's great!)
