Hi -- I'm kind of back...

And as you can see I've made a bit of a change in the blog's look.

Please forgive me for my long absence. A lot going on on the professional and personal side of my life.

Hopefully I can get back to posting at least once a week!

Confession....

Once again, I've taken leave of my senses and am in the midst of taking a class right now!

Needless to say, with all the other responsibilities in my life, this has taken a toll on my blogging time! And that's saying a lot, considering the fact that I've always been a "casual" blogger - to say the least! ;-)

However, never fear! This will not become a "cobweb" site! I'll continue to post as time permits for the next few weeks. The summer should see more regular (or as regular as I ever am!) posting!

Fab50Plus Speaks Your Language!...

With the help of Google Translate that is!

I've noticed, over the last 2 years, that I get quite a few visitors from over seas, who I am sure, as I do when I go to some of my favorite sites in other languages, wish they could read what I'm going on about!

Well wish no longer! (And be careful what you wish for!)

You will now see to the right a new gadget called Google Translate. Just pick your language and these blog will be translated into it - and read away!

A shout out of thanks to one of my favorite style on the street blogs Style and the City who has recently put this gadget on their site - I was thrilled to be able to translate it from French to English and actually be able to read the wonderful text that goes with the great pics!

Yes I know....

I've always been an occasional blogger, but lately it's just gotten to be ridiculous!

It's been a busy summer for me. While others may have been enjoying vacations in fascinating (or not so) places, there was a large project at my job (yes, the way I continue to be able to blog indoors) and lots of family related issues to deal with. Needless to say, it feels that the summer has passed me by!

But it's looking as if Fall maybe take a slower pace for me - and hopefully that will mean more blogging opportunities!

So continue to watch this spot! ;-)

Yes I know....

I've sort of been missing in action the last couple of weeks. I guess there are at least two things to blame...

1. The job / parent issues have been hopping the last couple of weeks - several doctor's appointments for my folks and lots of challenges at the job - which has left me just plain wiped.

2. I just haven't been "feeling" the whole fashion thing lately - maybe it's just feeling tired, but I just haven't seen much that has actually inspired me of late.

Hopefully the dry spell with end soon...so hang in there with me!

Geez, we don't even get a chance to absorb the Fall Fashion mags, when their off talking Spring Fashion in Bryant Park! :-p

Or is that just an expression of my jealousy of all the fashion bloggers who are actually going to the shows? ; - )

Really, if you get a kick out of this kind of thing, Style.com is the one you want to bookmark. They turn it out for the shows, posting pics of all the fashions that strolled down the runway. You can even subscribe for e-mail notifications and create your own lookbook containing pics of your favorite flocks of the season!

I can't believe....

That it has been a little bit over a year since I started this blog!

That's a lot of fashion and style blogs, articles and magazines under the bridge! Much of it wonderful and illuminating, by the way.

And what have I learned?

Hummm.....

1. That you really do disappear in the minds of retailers and designers as you grow older (case in point - the closing of Forth and Towne a store aimed at women well over the age of consent!)

2. That that disinterest is happening just at the time that, because of the changes in the 50+ woman's body and her life in general, she needs her clothes to serve her well now more than ever.

3. That if you are going to have style as a post 50+ woman, you damn well are going to have to develop it for yourself - 'cause you won't see many "role models" in the media to base your style choices on (Actually, considering the role models that are out there in the media for young women - Paris, Nicole, etc. - we might well be getting the better part of that deal!).

And the few that are presented to you as the post 50 woman, more than likely won't look much like you or many of the other post 50 women you know!

The long and short of it is that when it comes to fashion, the 50+ woman is pretty much on her own. And that might not be an altogether bad thing (Yeah, I know, I just HAVE to try to find a pony under all that shit!).

It's going to mean that what ever answer you come up with to give you the satisfaction that the face you present to the world is the one that really reflects who you are now. Yes, it's going to be through a lot of hard work (yeah, along with everything else you've got to do these days), some painful soul searching, and some very painful reality checks (there's going to have to be peace in our time with our new, post 50 bodies - and no, I can't say that enough!) - but it's going to be your choice - not some stylist or designer or TV talking head.

And believe me if you and I (because, trust me, I'm NOT there yet and I've got a long way to go) can stick it out to do that, whatever that style choice turns out to be, our clothing will rest lightly, well and beautifully on our shoulders.
