Henri Bendel Plans to Stop Selling Clothes This Summer
By it's very nature, the business of fashion has become, in great part, a business dependant on obsolesce - convincing people that they need to buy something "new" all the time. With everyone (and baby, that definitely includes me) doing more shopping in their closet than in the malls, the whole idea that folks will buy a whole new wardrobe (or, at the very least, quite a few new outfits) for each season just doesn't have lot of purchase right now.
It's going to be very interesting to see how the world of "fashion" negotiates the recessionary swells we're all experiencing right now. Hopeful we will see a move from selling (and buying) everything under the sun just because it's the "new" to a more thoughtful and, dare I say, style focused attitude towards both the buying and selling of fashion.
