Final Thoughts on Fashion Week, Fall 2011 | YouLookFab

Final Thoughts on Fashion Week, Fall 2011 | YouLookFab

Well Fashion Week is over! As you noticed, I didn't say much about it - far too busy with my real life to try to view all the collections!

But the fabulous Ms. Angie of YouLookFab gives her summary of the week, breaking down the trends she picked up. Except for the tapered trousers (WHY, WHY!) they sound very friendly to the 50+ gal! As a bonus, she has links to her posts of her fav collections.

Enjoy!

WWD’s Bridget Foley Is Sick Of Playing The Weight Blame Game | Styleite

WWD’s Bridget Foley Is Sick Of Playing The Weight Blame Game | Styleite

Love Styleite's replies to yet another "The Fashion World can't be held accountable for model's weight issues" whine.

And Styleite points out something that I've felt all along - that designers SHOULD be able to design for a wide range of sizes, ages and body types. My personal feeling on this is that many designers, especially "high" fashion ones, are either just plain lazy - or too lacking in talent to do so.

And yes Fashion world - if you continue to demand that these under-age girls you trick out as adults be thinner and thinner because the designer hasn't got the skill to design for anything other than a stick - you ARE responsible for the health concerns that result! So STFU about being blamed - or act like real adults, step up to the plate and stop your behavior that feeds this madness!

Fabulous video on a piece of fashion history I know I was not aware of....

American Renegades of Fashion - 40 years ago U.S. designers shocked everyone by using black models.

I LOVE seeing the different ways these ladies have aged - but are still absolutely fabulous!

Speaking of a wide range of sizes....

I don't know who this Mark Fast guy is - but I like him!

This from Ms. Kathryn The Budget Fashionista...

Plus Size Models Take On The London Runway

Now personally, I don't consider a size 14 to be plus size and I think it is telling in this day and age that it is presented as such!

But I love the designer's attitude - he is that rare species of designer who understands that he should be producing product that suits his customers - not expect the customer to some how accommodate HIS product!

Check out this sensible designer's wares - that are ANYTHING but common fare! - at his website - Mark Fast

Ms. Linda...

The Thoughtful Dresser gives a shout out of thanks to Ossie Clark for his sleeve heavy Fall 2009 RTW collection...

42 Dresses With Sleeves

Well I had to go over and check THIS out! And yes, he has a cornucopia of delicious - not dowdy - sleeves!

A good example...

I'm a fool for the poet sleeve (having, believe it or not, made a poet blouse in my youth!) and this is a elegant version of same!

My favs from the Ossie collection for the 50+ gal?...

And the coats? Yum-o!

More on how the state of the ecomomy....

Is effecting the fashion world.....

This from the The Wall Street Journal...

Vera Wang Opts Out of Fashion Week Tent

Reading this article is like reading a mini account of what drives an economy even further into the tank. Everyone along the chain keeps cutting back (and who can blame them as people, understandably, spend less and less), which only drives the economy to contract even further. And yes, there is also the idea that it just seems downright indecent to have lavish extravaganzas when people are literally losing their homes (and I applaud Mr. Valvo for saying just so).

And yes, even the fashion blogasphere is taking a hit...

This from Style It Online Fashionweek coverage...

Who Actually Is Showing At Fashion Week?

Interesting.....

Even high-end fashion houses resorting to discounts

So much for the confidence I kept seeing in the business press over the pass few months regarding the invincibility of the luxury high end market.

Even those with plenty of cash are feeling they need to hold on to more of it...

As I grow older...

I should be so lucky to develop her kind of definitive style...

From the The Thoughtful Dresser...

Moi? Eccentric?

Like it, hate it, VW's style is singularly hers and she makes no apologies for it!

We should all dress just so in our own lives...find the style that says who you feel you are - and to hell with what anyone else thinks!

Spork Fashion...

Likes Amelia Toro's Spring/Summer 08 collection...And I do too!

LAFW Spring 2009: Amelia Toro

Yes some of it is that gauzy nonsense that probably would not work for the 50+ woman. But there are a lot of solid and interesting pieces that the 50+ lady can work with!

Interesting Article....

Over at the The Wall Street Journal regarding many fashion designers "reluctance" to provide their designs in larger sizes (but really, since when is a 14 or 16 a "larger" size?) and a very wise designer who sees it as a business opportunity:

Dressing Women Of a Certain Size

(A shout out of thanks to The Pretty Pear for the heads up on this one! )

R.I.P Yves Saint Laurent...

There have been many, many wonderful tributes to the incomparable Yves Saint Laurent on his passing this week. But I think 55 Secret Street sums it up so wonderfully I feel there is little I can add...

Yves Saint Laurent 1936-2008

Requiescant in pace indeed YSL.
